Dr. Dij is an award-winning health equity and higher education leader for promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. For over two decades, she has been a trusted advisor across government (e.g. Pennsylvania Department of Health), academia (e.g. Johns Hopkins University), and industry (e.g. American Lung Association, GeneDx).
HEALTH EQUITY LEADERSHIP
Dr. Dij serves as a Pennsylvania Department of Health Office of Health Equity Advisor. This advisory committee works to advise the Secretary of Health on matters concerning health inequalities and recommend actions which are data-driven, evidence-based, and culturally aware; increase public awareness of the existence of health disparities; and mobilize statewide, community and individual actions to eliminate health disparities in Pennsylvania. https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/Health-Equity/Pages/Contact.aspx

HIGHER EDUCATION LEADERSHIP
From 2017-2023, Dr. Dij was the Founding Faculty Advisor to Lafayette LEADERS (Leadership and Enrichment Academy for Diverse Emerging Researchers and Scientists). She built community with underrepresented STEM majors, including students of color and first-generation college students. Dr. Dij supported LEADERS as they grew their scientific identities across natural science and engineering departments through professional development workshops, academic support programs, and social activities. www.instagram.com/laf.leaders
Lafayette LEADERS is working to build inclusive and supportive community for STEM students of color
From 2017-2023, Dr. Dij was the Founding Faculty Advisor for the Chi Chi chapter of Beta Beta Beta, a National Biological Sciences Honor Society. Dr. Dij supported students as they planned signature scholarly events for the academic year, including faculty and student research seminars, abstracts for district and national Beta Beta Beta research conferences, research proposals for grant competitions, Women in Science Teas, and STEM outreach events with a local elementary school.

From 2008-2013, Dr. Dij was Founder and CEO of Junior Research Scholars, Inc. (JRS). JRS was a STEM mentorship, college-readiness, and career-readiness nonprofit organization for disadvantaged youth in Baltimore City. Collectively, 18 mentees participated in 11 scientific competitions, winning a combined 23 ranked spots and special awards over a three year period. Today several of these scholars are in STEM fields.
