Dr. Khadijah A. Mitchell (Dr. Dij)
Khadijah A. Mitchell, Ph.D., M.S. is the endowed Peter C.S. d'Aubermont, M.D. Scholar of Health and Life Sciences and Assistant Professor of Biology at Lafayette College.
Her research program addresses the causes and consequences of cancer health disparities in African Americans for precision prevention and precision medicine purposes. Dr. Mitchell teaches STEM courses that intersect with public health, such as Precision Medicine, Public Health Biology, and Molecular Genetics. She integrates research findings from her laboratory into each course, and takes ideas generated in the classroom back to her laboratory for further study. Dr. Mitchell is the recipient of many honors and awards at the faculty, postdoctoral, and graduate level for her research, teaching, mentorship, and service leadership.
She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Cancer Institute after concurrently earning her PhD in Human Genetics and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, a graduate certificate in Health Disparities and Health Inequality from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and a graduate certificate in Teaching from the Johns Hopkins Teaching Academy. She received a MS in Biology from Duquesne University and BS in Biology from the University of Pittsburgh.
When not using her expertise to promote health and STEM education equity, you can catch Dr. Dij watching Pittsburgh Steelers football games, crafting with her Cricut, and trying new smoothie recipes (but not at the same time).
